World War I
World War I was a global conflict between the Allies and the Central Powers that lasted from 1914 to 1918, resulting in an estimated 9 million military deaths and 23 million wounded, as well as up to 8 million civilian deaths. The war was sparked by the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand and the subsequent mobilization of European powers, including Germany, Russia, France, and the United Kingdom. The war was characterized by trench warfare, the use of artillery, machine guns, and chemical weapons, and involved many countries, including Italy, Bulgaria, Romania, and Greece. The United States entered the war in 1917, and the Bolsheviks seized power in Russia in 1917, leading to a separate peace with Germany. The war ended with the Armistice of 11 November 1918, and the Paris Peace Conference imposed settlements on the defeated powers, including the Treaty of Versailles, which imposed significant territorial losses and disarmament on Germany.learn more on wikipedia
