Venus in Furs
Venus in Furs is a novella by Austrian author Leopold von Sacher-Masoch, published in 1870. The novel explores themes of female dominance and sadomasochism, drawing inspiration from Sacher-Masoch's own life. The central female character, Wanda von Dunajew, was modeled after Fanny Pistor, a literary writer whom Sacher-Masoch met after she contacted him for writing advice. The novel's plot concerns a man who dreams of speaking to Venus about love, and features a framing story in which a narrator tells his dreams to a friend, Severin, who recounts his own experiences of submitting to Wanda's cruel treatment. The relationship between Severin and Wanda is marked by a series of degrading and humiliating experiences, which Severin describes as "suprasensuality." The novel ends with Severin losing his desire to submit to Wanda after she meets a new lover.learn more on wikipedia
