The Véhicule de l'Avant Blindé, also known as the VAB, is a French armoured personnel carrier designed and manufactured by Renault Trucks Defense. It was introduced in 1979 and has been produced in over 5,000 units for the French Army and export to more than 15 countries. The VAB has multiple variants and is used for transporting personnel and equipment, mechanized infantry combat, anti-tank missile launchers, self-propelled mortars, electronic warfare, reconnaissance, and artillery observation. As of 2019, the VAB is being gradually replaced by the VBMR Griffon and VBMR-L Serval. It features a wheeled troop transporter design, amphibious capabilities, and is NBC-proof.
