Swannanoa River
The Swannanoa River is a 22-mile-long tributary to the French Broad River in Western North Carolina, flowing through the Swannanoa Valley and Buncombe County. Its headwaters arise in Black Mountain, with a major tributary, Flat Creek, originating on Mount Mitchell. The river ends at its confluence with the French Broad River within the Biltmore Estate in Asheville. The area is home to ancient Native American sites, including the Biltmore Mound, built between 400 and 600 CE, and was a traditional meeting place for the Cherokee people. The river provides drinking water and recreational opportunities to the Asheville metropolitan area, but has experienced significant flooding events, including in 2004 and 2024, due to hurricanes.learn more on wikipedia
