Stone Mountain
Stone Mountain is a quartz monzonite dome monadnock located 15 miles east of Atlanta, Georgia, and is the site of Stone Mountain Park. The park, which is the most visited tourist site in Georgia, features a massive rock relief on its north face, depicting three Confederate leaders, and is owned by the state of Georgia. The mountain is a pluton formed from the upwelling of magma 300-350 million years ago, primarily composed of quartz monzonite, and features a range of minerals including quartz, plagioclase feldspar, and muscovite. The summit offers panoramic views of the surrounding area, including the skyline of downtown Atlanta, and is home to unique freshwater pools containing clam shrimp and fairy shrimp that appear only during the rainy season.learn more on wikipedia
