Rafic Hariri International Airport
Beirut–Rafic Hariri International Airport is the only operational commercial airport in Lebanon, located 9 kilometers from the city center. It serves as the hub for Middle East Airlines and was previously the hub for TMA cargo and Wings of Lebanon. The airport was named after former Prime Minister Rafic Hariri in 2005, following his assassination. It is managed by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation and is responsible for air traffic control and airspace control. The airport has been alleged to be used by Hezbollah for storing Iranian weapons. It has a history dating back to 1954, when it replaced the Bir Hassan Airfield, and has undergone several renovations and reconstruction programs, including a major 10-year program launched in 1994.learn more on wikipedia
