Pacific Coast Highway
State Route 1 (SR 1) is a 656-mile north-south state highway in California that runs along most of the Pacific coastline. It is the longest state route in California and the second-longest in the US, with its southern terminus at Interstate 5 near Dana Point in Orange County and its northern terminus at U.S. Route 101 near Leggett in Mendocino County. The highway has several portions designated as the Pacific Coast Highway, Cabrillo Highway, Shoreline Highway, or Coast Highway. It is designated as an All-American Road and serves as a major thoroughfare in several coastal urban areas, including the Greater Los Angeles Area and the San Francisco Bay Area. The route was built piecemeal in various stages, with the first section opening in the Big Sur region in the 1930s, and was not officially designated as SR 1 until the 1964 state highway renumbering.learn more on wikipedia
