Operation Deterrence of Aggression

A coalition of Syrian opposition groups, led by Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), launched an offensive against pro-government forces in Idlib, Aleppo, and Hama Governorates on November 27, 2024. The operation, codenamed "Deterrence of Aggression", was in response to increased shelling of civilians by the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and marked the first large-scale opposition military campaign since the March 2020 Idlib ceasefire. HTS and its allies rapidly advanced, capturing most of the city of Aleppo and making gains in Hama, as pro-government forces disintegrated.
