Notre-Dame de Paris
Notre-Dame de Paris is a medieval Catholic cathedral located on the Île de la Cité in Paris, France. Construction began in 1163 under Bishop Maurice de Sully and was largely completed by 1260. The cathedral is considered one of the finest examples of French Gothic architecture, featuring pioneering use of the rib vault and flying buttress, enormous and colourful rose windows, and abundant sculptural decoration. It was desecrated during the French Revolution, restored in the 19th century, and suffered a serious fire in 2019. The cathedral contains the cathedra of the archbishop of Paris, is a minor basilica, and is renowned for its Lent sermons and as a symbol of Paris and the French nation. It attracts approximately 12 million visitors annually and is planned to reopen on 8 December 2024.learn more on wikipedia
