- Nord Stream Pipeline
Nord Stream Pipeline
Nord Stream is a network of offshore natural gas pipelines that run under the Baltic Sea from Russia to Germany, comprising two separate projects, Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2, with a total of 4 physical pipes. The project is owned by a consortium of 5 energy companies and was the first pipeline to bypass Ukraine and Poland to deliver Russian natural gas directly to Western Europe. The project was opposed by the United States, which imposed sanctions on companies involved, and was also criticized by German politicians as an interference in their internal affairs. In 2022, four explosions damaged three of the four pipelines, rendering them inoperable, and a Ukrainian national was issued an arrest warrant for suspected sabotage.learn more on wikipedia
