IRIS-T

The IRIS-T is a medium-range infrared homing missile available in air-to-air and surface-to-air variants, also known as AIM-2000. It was developed in the late 1990s to early 2000s by a German-led program to replace the AIM-9 Sidewinder, with the goal of any aircraft capable of firing the Sidewinder also being able to launch the IRIS-T. The air-to-air variant was fielded in 2005, while surface-to-air defense systems variants, including the IRIS-T SLS and IRIS-T SLM, were introduced in 2015 and 2022, respectively.
