HMS Somerset

HMS Somerset is a Type 23 frigate of the Royal Navy, built by Yarrow Shipbuilders Ltd on the River Clyde in Scotland, and launched in June 1994. She entered service in 1996, with Lady Elspeth Layard as her sponsor, and is named after the Dukedom of Somerset. Somerset has inherited four battle honours from previous ships of the name and has the Freedom of the City of Wells and is affiliated with the County of Somerset and other organizations. She has participated in several operational missions, including standing by for a possible evacuation in Sierra Leone, completing at-sea firing trials, and intercepting a Tanzanian-registered tug in the North Sea.learn more on wikipedia
