Gounsa Temple
The Gounsa temple is a head temple of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism located in Danchon-myeon, Uiseong County, Gyeongsangbuk-do, South Korea. It was built in 681 CE by Uisang, a leading Buddhist monk, and has undergone several expansions and reconstructions, including a significant expansion by Doseon-guksa during the reign of King Heongang of Silla. The temple served as a center of uibyeong resistance during the Imjin War and was designated as one of 30 principal temples in Korea during the Japanese occupation. It was again devastated by fire in 1975 and underwent major restoration works in 1992. In 2025, the complex hosted 40 monks, but was severely damaged by the March 2025 South Korea wildfires, with 21 of its 30 buildings destroyed. The temple is regarded as the most sacred site for the worship of Jijang-bosal in Korea.learn more on wikipedia
