Dome Of The Rock
The Dome of the Rock is an Islamic shrine located at the center of the Al-Aqsa mosque compound on the Temple Mount in the Old City of Jerusalem, considered the world's oldest surviving work of Islamic architecture. It was initially constructed in 691-692 CE by the Umayyad Caliphate and features an octagonal plan, influenced by nearby Byzantine churches and palaces, with an elevated circular drum supporting a 20m diameter dome. The site bears significant importance in the Abrahamic religions due to its connection to the creation of the world, the attempted sacrifice of Abraham's son, and as the place where God's divine presence is most manifested. The Dome of the Rock is also designated as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and is considered a unique monument of Islamic culture.learn more on wikipedia
