Charter of the United Nations
The Charter of the United Nations is the foundational treaty of the United Nations, establishing the purposes, governing structure, and overall framework of the UN system. It sets out the UN's goals, including maintaining international peace and security, upholding international law, and promoting human rights and fundamental freedoms. The Charter was drafted during the San Francisco Conference in 1945 and entered into force on October 24, 1945, following ratification by the five permanent members of the Security Council and a majority of the other signatories. The Charter consists of a preamble and 111 articles grouped into 19 chapters, outlining the UN's powers and obligations, including its six principal organs: the Secretariat, the General Assembly, the Security Council, the Economic and Social Council, the International Court of Justice, and the Trusteeship Council. With 193 parties, the Charter has been ratified by most countries, making it an integral part of international law.learn more on wikipedia
