Butler Library

Butler Library is the largest single library on the campus of Columbia University, located in Manhattan, New York City, with over 2 million volumes. The Neoclassical style building was built between 1931 and 1934 to a design by James Gamble Rogers and houses the university's collections in the humanities, history, social sciences, literature, philosophy, and religion. The building was originally intended to be named after Alexander Hamilton, but was ultimately named after Nicholas Murray Butler, the university's president from 1902 to 1945.
