Baroque
The Baroque style is a Western art movement that flourished from the early 17th century until the 1750s, characterized by contrast, movement, exuberant detail, and grandeur. It originated in Rome and spread rapidly throughout Europe, evolving into an even more flamboyant style known as Rococo in the 1730s. The style is marked by intricate ornamentation, use of new motifs such as cartouches and trophies, and a departure from Renaissance classicism. The term "Baroque" is derived from the French word, which in turn is thought to come from the Portuguese term "barroco", meaning "flawed pearl". The style was encouraged by the Catholic Church as a means to counter Protestant simplicity and austerity, and was used in architecture, music, dance, painting, sculpture, and other arts.learn more on wikipedia
