Amphibious Ready Group

An Amphibious Ready Group (ARG) of the United States Navy consists of a naval element, known as an Amphibious Task Force (ATF), and a landing force of approximately 5,000 U.S. Marines and occasional U.S. Army soldiers. The ARG is composed of a range of forces, including Amphibious Ready Groups/Marine Expeditionary Units (Special Operations Capable), Marine Expeditionary Brigades, and Marine Expeditionary Forces, and is capable of performing missions from humanitarian assistance to major theater war.
