1967 Six-Day War
The Six-Day War was a conflict fought between Israel and a coalition of Arab states, primarily Egypt, Syria, and Jordan, from June 5 to 6, 1967. The war was sparked by tensions over the Straits of Tiran, which Egypt had closed to Israeli shipping, and Israel launched a preemptive airstrike against Egyptian airfields on June 5. The Israeli military then launched a ground offensive into Egypt's Sinai Peninsula and the Gaza Strip, and by the end of the conflict, Israel had occupied the entire Sinai Peninsula, the Golan Heights from Syria, the West Bank including East Jerusalem from Jordan, and the Gaza Strip from Egypt. The war resulted in over 15,000 Arab fatalities and fewer than 1,000 Israeli casualties, and led to the displacement of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians and Syrians.learn more on wikipedia
