US Authorises Ukraine to Use Long-Range US Missiles for Strikes Inside Russia
US President Joe Biden has authorized Ukraine to use long-range American missiles against military targets inside Russia. According to various reports, including AFP and The New York Times, this decision was made in response to North Korea deploying troops to support Russia's war effort. The US official told AFP that the move is a "massive" escalation in the conflict, and Russian President Vladimir Putin has warned that this would mean that NATO is "at war" with Russia. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has welcomed the decision, saying that the missiles will "speak for themselves". The weapons are initially likely to be employed against Russian and North Korean troops in defense of Ukrainian forces in the Kursk region of western Russia. This move comes two months before President-elect Donald Trump takes office, who has vowed to limit further support for Ukraine.
Only when the world reacts decisively can the situation change. Russia has involved North Korea in its war—and the reaction has been weak. Russia has continued its terror for nearly 1,000 days—and the world's decisions are still delayed.
Long-range strikes were always one piece of the puzzle, and had been overly freighted with expectations in this war.
I have no plans to speak to Putin.
The military industrial complex seems to want to make sure they get World War III going before my father has a chance to create peace and save lives.
We will stand by Ukraine for as long as it takes. We are supporting Ukraine in this winter specifically where infrastructure for energy is concerned.
We have seen the horrible, horrible attacks this night of Russia against Ukraine, destroying civil energy infrastructure and costing an incredible amount of human lives.
No one will stop Putin with phone calls. The attack last night, one of the biggest in this war, has proved that telephone diplomacy cannot replace real support from the whole West for Ukraine.
No decision will be taken behind Ukraine's back.
And the Biden administration cannot help but understand that it leaves the Trump team with the problem of resolving not only the Ukrainian conflict but also an even more acute one — preventing a global confrontation.
Biden, apparently, decided to end his presidential term and go down in history as 'Bloody Joe.
