Russian President Proposes Direct Peace Talks with Ukraine in Istanbul on May 15
ai generated text
Russian President Vladimir Putin has proposed direct talks with Ukraine on May 15 in Istanbul, in an effort to "eliminate the root causes of the conflict." Putin stated that the talks should be held "without any preconditions" and that Ukraine should be prepared to "serious negotiations." This proposal comes after European leaders called for an unconditional 30-day ceasefire to start on Monday.
I will continue to work with both sides to make sure that it happens. The USA wants to focus, instead, on Rebuilding and Trade. A big week upcoming!
A potentially great day for Russia and Ukraine!
Think of the hundreds of thousands of lives that will be saved as this never-ending 'bloodbath' hopefully comes to an end. It will be a whole new, and much better, world.
We would like to start immediately, already next Thursday, May 15, in Istanbul, where they were held before and where they were interrupted.
We do not exclude that during these talks there will be a possibility to arrange some kind of new truce, a new ceasefire.
It was not Russia that broke off negotiations in 2022. It was Kyiv. Nevertheless, we are proposing that Kyiv resume direct negotiations without any preconditions.
Our proposal, as they say, is on the table, the decision is now up to the Ukrainian authorities and their curators, who are guided, it seems, by their personal political ambitions, and not by the interests of their peoples.
This would be the first step towards a long-term, lasting peace, rather than a prologue to more armed hostilities after the Ukrainian armed forces get new armaments and personnel, after feverish trench-digging and the establishment of new command posts.
It is a new development. But trying to pressure us is quite useless.
We hear many contradictory statements from Europe. They are generally confrontational in nature rather than aimed at trying to revive our relations. Nothing more.
Germany will continue to expand its financial support. I am counting on you (...) to do the same with us.
Under my leadership, the debate about arms deliveries, caliber, weapons systems and so on will be taken out of the public eye.
Almost all member states of the European Union and a large coalition of the willing around the world are determined to enforce these sanctions even if our initiative… should fail.
If Russia agrees and effective monitoring is ensured, a durable ceasefire and confidence-building measures can pave the way to peace negotiations.
The talks failed because of both sides, but Zelenskyy scored more moral points in this competition, because he proposed a more significant version of a truce, Trump is satisfied with him in general.
Currently, Putin doesn't want peace and that's why the talks make no sense. The White House can get out of them – and nothing will change at all.
Moscow postponed talks until the fall and is getting ready for an active summer offence, trying to probe weak spots in our defence.
A compromise between what and what? Between Russia's desire to kill, rape, loot, seize territories, and our demands that our territories are not taken away and we are not killed? There's no room for compromise.
