Justin Trudeau Confronts Trump Over Suggestion of Canadian Annexation Amid Ongoing Trade Disputes
Canada's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has expressed concerns that President Donald Trump may be serious about annexing Canada. According to Trudeau, Trump believes that annexing Canada would be an easy process, possibly through absorption. This information was reportedly shared by Trudeau during a closed-door meeting at the Canada-US Economic Summit in Toronto, and was later confirmed by two Canadian business leaders who attended the meeting. Canada possesses significant natural resources, including over 60 minerals and metals, with deposits scattered across its vast landmass, which is roughly as large as all of Europe. The country's provinces of Ontario and British Columbia are particularly rich in key minerals such as nickel, copper, and molybdenum.
What I'd like to see - Canada become our 51st state.
The Trump tornado has changed the world in just a few weeks. ... Yesterday we were heretics; today we're mainstream.
Mr Trump has it in mind that the easiest way to do it is absorbing our country and it is a real thing.
Canadians are incredibly proud of being Canadian. One of the ways we define ourselves most easily is, well, we're not American.
President Trump, who is a very skillful negotiator, is getting people to be somewhat distracted by that, by that conversation, to take away from the conversation around 25% tariffs on oil and gas and electricity and steel and aluminum and lumber and concrete.
I suggest that not only does the Trump administration know how many critical minerals we have but that may be even why they keep talking about absorbing us and making us the 51st state.
Our American friends understand that they need Canada for their economic security, they need Canada for their energy security and they need Canada for their national security.
We are doubling down on our strategic partnership through CETA — creating rock-solid trade opportunities for businesses on both sides of the Atlantic.
The global economy needs fewer trade barriers, not more.
We're facing a truly global tipping point. Hurricane Trump is sweeping across the United States.
President Trump, to us, is like a brother in arms.
