Israel Announces Daily Tactical Pause in Southern Gaza to Allow Aid Deliveries
The Israeli military has announced a daily "tactical pause" of military activity along a 12-kilometer route in the Rafah area of southern Gaza, allowing aid trucks to reach the Israel-controlled Kerem Shalom crossing. The pause will take place from 8am to 7pm local time and is aimed at addressing the dire humanitarian crisis in the besieged Palestinian territory. This announcement comes after months of warnings of famine and a day after eight Israeli soldiers were killed in a blast near Rafah. The pause has been met with mixed reactions, with some far-right government ministers criticizing the move as a sign of weakness, while others see it as a necessary step to address the humanitarian crisis. The United Nations and aid groups have repeatedly sounded the alarm about dire shortages of food and other essential supplies in Gaza.
Do not let anyone distract you from the simple and clear fact: We must remain dedicated to the war aims, despite the heavy and agonizing price.
A local, tactical pause of military activity for humanitarian purposes will take place from 8:00 am until 7:00 pm every day until further notice along the road that leads from the Kerem Shalom crossing to the Salah al-Din road and then northwards.
With continued restrictions to humanitarian access, people in #Gaza continue to face desperate levels of hunger. Over 50,000 children require treatment for acute malnutrition.
Hospitals in ruin, restrictions on humanitarian access and scarce medical supplies and fuel across #Gaza are pushing the health situation beyond crisis level.
Whoever decided on a 'tactical pause' for the purpose of a humanitarian transition, especially at a time when the best of our soldiers are falling in battle, is an evil and a fool who should not continue to be in his position.
The U.N. and our humanitarian partners are ready to engage with all parties to ensure lifesaving assistance reaches those in need across Gaza.
It's horror. There is famine - full-blown famine - in the north, and it's moving its way south.
There has been information that such a decision has been taken, but the political level says none of this decision has been taken.
For the Americans, he needs to show he is doing more to get aid in. For the Israeli audience he can say 'I didn't know' and go for plausible deniability.
