European leaders to hold emergency summit on Ukraine
ai generated text
European leaders met in Paris for emergency talks on the Ukraine conflict, calling for increased military spending to boost defense capabilities. They also agreed that a ceasefire without a peace agreement would be hazardous. The leaders' positions are divided, with some supporting a "peace through strength" approach, similar to that proposed by US President Donald Trump. The British government announced its readiness to send peacekeeping troops to aid in a Ukraine peace deal.

Maybe Russia will give up a lot. Maybe they won't [...] The negotiation really hasn't started.
Most democratic countries hold elections in their wartime. I think it's important that they do so. That's the beauty of a solid democracy, you have more than one person who could run.
All their concerns will be known, and addressed as well.
European blindness came to an abrupt end in Munich. From now on, the security of the continent depends essentially on the Europeans themselves, and on their ability to maintain their unity.
We have to find out whether or not Russia wants to make a deal. I know that Zelenskiy wants to make a deal because he told me that.
A few days ago, President Trump told me about his conversation with Putin. Not once did he mention that America needs Europe at that table. That says a lot.
Let's be honest – now we can't rule out the possibility that America might say no to Europe on issues that threaten it.
I really believe that time has come. The Armed Forces of Europe must be created.
No decisions about Ukraine without Ukraine. No decisions about Europe without Europe. Europe must have a seat at the table when decisions about Europe are being made. Anything else is zero. If we're left out of negotiations about our own future then we all lose.
We, as a sovereign country, simply will not be able to accept any agreements without us.
Ukraine will never accept deals made behind our backs without our involvement. And the same rule should apply to all of Europe.
Everyone understands that a negotiation format could involve America, Ukraine, and Russia – but where is Europe? I am also very interested in having Europe involved.
I just had a long conversation with President of France @EmmanuelMacron following his meeting today with other European leaders to discuss the global situation, the state of affairs in Europe, and security guarantees for Ukraine.
The only question at this stage is whether President Putin is genuinely, sustainably, and credibly willing to agree to a ceasefire on this basis.
After bringing together several European leaders, I have just spoken with President @realDonaldTrump and then with President @ZelenskyyUa. We seek a strong and lasting peace in Ukraine. To achieve this, Russia must end its aggression, and this must be accompanied by strong and credible security guarantees for the Ukrainians. Otherwise, there is a risk that this ceasefire will end up like the Minsk agreements.
We need in any case, in any diplomacy, any future … we have to go shoulder to shoulder with Europeans.
A US security guarantee is essential for a lasting peace, because only the US can deter Putin from attacking again.
Europe must play its role, and I'm prepared to consider committing British forces on the ground alongside others, if there is a lasting peace agreement, but there must be a US backstop.
I don't think this is about excluding anybody.
Europe's security is at a turning point. Yes, it is about Ukraine – but it is also about us. We need an urgency mindset. We need a surge in defense. And we need both of them now.
