Biden Withdraws from Presidential Race, Endorses Kamala Harris as Democratic Nominee
President Joe Biden has dropped out of the 2024 presidential race, citing it is in the best interest of his party and country for him to stand down. He has endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as his replacement, making her the first woman, Black person, and person of South Asian descent to potentially become the Democratic Party's nominee. Biden's decision comes after weeks of pressure from fellow Democrats, who had lost faith in his ability to defeat Donald Trump. Harris, 59, starts out in a strong position to replace Biden, having already accumulated pledged delegates during the primary process earlier this year. Grassroots voters will hope that she will better serve their interests than Biden did during the initial nomination race. Andrew Yang, who ran against Biden for the party's nomination in 2020, has also expressed support for Harris.
We will suffer greatly because of his presidency, but we will remedy the damage he has done very quickly. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!
Kamala, I call her laughing Kamala. Have you seen her laughing? She is crazy. You can tell a lot by a laugh. She is nuts. She is not as crazy as Nancy Pelosi.
And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and my country for me to stand down.
There's no one at this moment preparing behind the scenes to challenge Vice-President Harris.
It is undoubtedly the decision of a statesman who has served his country for decades.
I respect President Biden's decision and I look forward to us working together during the remainder of his presidency.
The Americans are divided in their positions in favour of or against Trump. I believe that, whoever leads the Democrats' campaign after Biden's withdrawal, this divide will remain in place. And everything will depend on how the Republicans will now organise and complete this campaign.
It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your president.
I know Joe has never backed down from a fight. But I know he wouldn't make this decision unless he believed it was right for America.
Today, we've also been reminded – again – that he's a patriot of the highest order.
Here's the thing that people from the coasts might not understand about Midwestern Democrats. We will be Midwest nice to you, while we Midwest beat you.
