At least 7 dead as heaviest rainfall in decades hits parts of Central and Eastern Europe
Storm Boris has caused widespread flooding and damage across Europe, resulting in at least seven deaths, including one person who drowned in Poland and a firefighter who died in action in Austria. The storm has brought torrential rains, with some areas receiving a month's worth of rain in just a few days, causing rivers to swell and burst their banks. In the Czech Republic, authorities have declared the highest flood warnings in almost 90 places, with up to 10,000 people asked to leave their homes for higher ground. In Romania, at least five people have died, and over 1,600 people have been evacuated. The storm has also caused significant damage and disruption, with emergency services working to rescue those affected and restore order. Meteorologists warn that the situation may still worsen as waters in most rivers continue to rise.
