At least 126 people killed in a powerful earthquake in Tibet as rescuers rush for survivors in freezing weather conditions
The most recent reports indicate that the death toll from the destructive earthquake in Tibet has risen to 126 people, with at least 150 aftershocks reported, causing further anxiety in the region. According to some sources, the magnitude of the quake was 7.1, while others report a magnitude of 6.8, although the latter is believed to be a preliminary report. Regardless, the quake has caused widespread destruction, with thousands of homes demolished and hundreds of people injured. Rescue efforts are ongoing, with blankets and tents being distributed to those in need. Temperatures have fallen below freezing in the affected areas, where the average altitude is 13,800 feet. Some 24 hours after the quake, rescue workers are still searching for survivors, with over 30,000 residents relocated from the affected areas.
Even young people couldn't run out of the houses when the earthquake hit, let alone old people and children.
Government and people of India express condolences on the tragic loss of life and property caused by the devastating earthquake in the Tibet Autonomous Region. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families.
I offer my prayers for those who have lost their lives and extend my wishes for a swift recovery to all who have been injured.
